IT’S GETTIN’ HOT IN HERE
It’s probably already summer in some parts of the world, or in tropical countries like my beloved Philippines, it’s sunnier and hotter than usual. Everyone must be lounging on the beach with their summer-ready bodies. Not in Switzerland. It’s still spring here. Although it is still jacket season, the temperature was as cold as 20°C. So I rummaged through my wardrobe and pulled out my summer collection just so I can temporary feel the season. I then made a lemongrass drink with a good drizzle of elderflower syrup, some mint leaves, and lemon slices to go with it. Insert the picturesque Boracay sunset or El Nido’s clear lagoons. Yes, that would be perfect!
LEMONGRASS DRINK WITH ELDERFLOWER SYRUP
Elderflower cordial or syrup is mostly famous in Europe particularly in the North Western end. This syrup is made of refined sugar, water, and the flowers of the elderberry tree. The flower is most of the time used in traditional medicine due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
I always have a bottle of Elderflower syrup at home. I got this idea from my mother-in-law, because every time her grandchildren pays her a visit, they always beg her for a glass of water with fruity syrup instead of soda. This is a really good practice for them because at an early age, they are already being trained by their parents how to be healthy by avoiding soda. Not me. I am guilty for having gulped down tons of soda in my 30 years of existence. Hey, we can’t deny the satisfaction it gives us, right? You will agree with me on this.
Today, let’s set aside the calorie loaded soda and let’s put up something easy and refreshingly healthy!
This ice-cold drink made of elderberry plant would absolutely be a new family favorite and would surely quench your thirst. The stimulating and soothing smell of the lemongrass and the freshness of the mint leaves, combined with the sweetness of the elderflower syrup and handful of ice cubes, is pure indulgence that you couldn’t resist! Isn’t it tempting? I can’t wait for you to try it!
Take a swig and tell me how extremely good it is!
